Land Use Bylaw (LUB)

The Summer Village of Island Lake South has been working on a new Land Use Bylaw over the past year.  Most of the changes have been simply to bring it up to current regulatory standards as it was outdated.

We will be holding a public hearing for the new Land Use Bylaw on Zoom on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at 7:00 pm.  There will not be a presentation.  The draft Land Use Bylaw is available here for you to review.  The public hearing is a chance for anyone who has something they would like to say about the draft to do so.  You are also welcome to email your comments to and they will be shared with council.  We ask that everyone have their comments in by June 12, 2021.

The information for the zoom meeting can be found here.

Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP)

The Summer Village of Island Lake South along with the Summer Village of Island Lake and Athabasca County have engaged Municipal Planning Services (MPS) to assist with the preparation of an Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP).

Throughout 2020, the Summer Villages, the County, and MPS have been working to prepare a draft IDP, which is a high-level statutory land use plan for areas of mutual interest of two or more municipalities.

The draft IDP and supporting public engagement materials from the Online Open House held February 24, 2021 are available for your review. Community members are encouraged to watch the YouTube video presentation, review the draft IDP, and complete the feedback survey by March 3, 2021.

Feedback Survey

After the survey closes, MPS will compile all of the feedback received from community members, which will be documented and summarized in a What We Heard Report (WWHR). The WWHR will be posted on the County’s website for your review and shared with the County and the Summer Village.

The WWHR will help guide the County and the Summer Village to determine if/where revisions to the draft IDP should be made.

Stay tuned in the coming weeks for more information.
