Land Use Bylaw (LUB)
The Summer Village of Island Lake South has been working on a new Land Use Bylaw over the past year. Most of the changes have been simply to bring it up to current regulatory standards as it was outdated.
We will be holding a public hearing for the new Land Use Bylaw on Zoom on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at 7:00 pm. There will not be a presentation. The draft Land Use Bylaw is available here for you to review. The public hearing is a chance for anyone who has something they would like to say about the draft to do so. You are also welcome to email your comments to email@example.com and they will be shared with council. We ask that everyone have their comments in by June 12, 2021.
The information for the zoom meeting can be found here.

Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP)
The Summer Village of Island Lake South along with the Summer Village of Island Lake and Athabasca County have engaged Municipal Planning Services (MPS) to assist with the preparation of an Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP).
Throughout 2020 and 2021, the Summer Villages, the County, and MPS have been working to prepare a draft IDP, which is a high-level statutory land use plan for areas of mutual interest of two or more municipalities.
IDP PROJECT UPDATE
Thanks to all who attended the Online Open House in February and provided feedback on the draft Island Lake IDP. The feedback received from residents and stakeholders was compiled and summarized into a What We Heard Report (WWHR), which also included proposed recommended changes based on the feedback received. Over the past few months, the IDP Committee (which consists of members of the Councils from the participating municipalities) and municipal administrations have reviewed the WWHR and provided direction for revisions to the draft IDP based on the findings and recommendations in the WWHR.
The What We Heard Report and revised draft IDP are now available for review.
The draft IDP will be going to the Councils for first reading and there will be a public hearing scheduled thereafter. Stay tuned for more information about the date of the public hearing and how to attend. If you would like to be added to the project email update list, please email Allison Rosland at firstname.lastname@example.org to have your email added to the distribution list.
